Halifax/Dartmouth - Saturday Parking

No Longer Free Starting July 18th

USPA NEWS - The Halifax Regional Municipality is notifying residents and visitors that, commencing Saturday, July 18th, 2026, paid on-street parking will be enforced on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Downtown Halifax (parking zones B and C) and Downtown Dartmouth (parking zone H).
Introducing paid on-street parking on Saturdays in these areas aligns with Regional Council’s strategic direction as outlined in the 2026/27 municipal budget. The change aims to effectively manage high weekend demand, promote turnover of parking spaces, and enhance access to short-term parking. This will facilitate easier access for residents, visitors, and customers to nearby shops, services, and destinations.
In line with weekday parking policies, drivers must commence a paid parking session at a pay station or via the HotSpot app, including sessions of under one hour. The first hour is provided free of charge, followed by a flat rate of $2 per hour. Parking regulations will be enforced during paid hours on Saturdays, and vehicles without a registered parking session may receive a ticket, regardless of the duration of their stay.
To reflect the introduction of paid Saturday parking, municipal staff will be updating over 600 parking signs across zones B, C, and H between June 29th and July 18th, with all signs expected to be in place by the effective date, and drivers will not be required to register or pay for parking in these areas on Saturdays until July 18th.
HRM spokesperson had this to say; This approach fosters a fair, user-pay model for on-street parking management, contributing to a vibrant, accessible downtown core and supporting municipal services. It aligns with the priorities of Moving Better, Enabling Prosperity, and Responsible Administration outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan by enhancing transportation efficiency, improving access to downtown businesses, and implementing a fair, user-pay approach to managing a shared public asset.
